Experience has shown women’s lives are enriched by the mutual exchange of knowledge and long term sustainable relationships are created as a result. WGN members are successful dynamic women with a broad base of expertise and experiences that have shaped both their career paths and personal skills. By sharing what they have learned with other women WGN members understand that they are helping to raise the bar on what women can accomplish in the workplace and furthering the status of women both in their local communities and around the world.
WGN members agree that succession planning is critical. Sadly, statistics reflect that in many circumstances, women have not made significant advances in increasing the number of women in management circles, board positions or political offices in the last 25 years. With the impending retirement of nearly 40 million baby boomers in the next 15 years, companies are scrambling to train the next generation of managers and download decades of important corporate knowledge. This is a unique time when women can reach out and assist in the growth of other women to fill these roles and shift the statistics of the past.
WGN offers many ways for you to get involved and share your personal wisdom and knowledge with others. WGN has formed alliances with a number of organizations who are actively looking for successful women to mentor and act as role models for their participants. These include:
Dress for Success whose mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Since 1997, Dress for Success has served more than 550,000 women around the world including the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, the Netherlands, Mexico, Poland and the West Indies. Through the Women2Women mentoring program, WGN members work with the Dress for Success
Professional Women's Group (PWG) which is open to Dress for Success clients who have successfully gained employment and who need assistance in navigating their new career challenges with confidence and support. WGN members are paired with DFS clients in a mentor/mentee relationship developing rewarding and enriching relationships to both.
Center for Creative Leadership Young Women’s Leadership Program
Each year WGN-San Diego works with rising high school junior and senior girls who are active leaders in their schools and who are often first generation college bound. WGN members are able to offer guidance in unchartered territory for these girls and active support as they face new but exciting challenges.
Member to Member - WGN also has fun speed matching events where WGN members are paired with other members who are seeking guidance and information from other women in the organization who are more experienced in a certain industry, profession or business expertise and who want to give back and share what they have learned. Some mentees are looking for mentors that are in their specific industries, while others may be looking for someone with business experience not specific to any one industry. Others may simply be looking for a “sounding board.” The idea is to learn from each others’ successes, experiences, and challenges.
WGN continues to create strategic alliances with different organizations throughout the country.
